Bigzanda Gallery is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition: “Surf Photo: New England and Beyond” featuring works by photographers Christian del Rosario and Christian Kozowyk. The show will run from September 24, 2005 to October 31, 2005 with an opening reception Saturday, Sept. 24 from 3 p.m - 7 p.m.
The exhibit will feature surf and ocean related photography from New England and other surf destinations. Christian Kozowyk’s work for this show consists of ethereal, timeless oceanscapes shot on large format film, enlarged to 40” x 50.” Christian del Rosario shoots stunning surf and ocean photography. Both photographers are able to capture the unique New England surfing environment, effectively communicating the moods about a surf destination while documenting surf culture from an inside perspective.
Christian del Rosario is a surfer/photographer/webmaster based in Nantucket, Massachusetts. With 18 years of surfing experience, he has surfed and photographed many surf spots on the East Coast, the Caribbean, Costa Rica, California and Hawaii. Del Rosario has taught surfing for the last six years at Nantucket Island Surf School, and has logged 20,000 miles of offshore sailing, including a trans-Atlantic crossing. His work can be seen on New England’s premier surfing website (which he created and maintains) nesUrfari.com as well as Surfline.com’s web site, and in the print surf publications Eastern Surf Magazine and N’East.
Christian Kozowyk uses traditional photo techniques with vintage equipment, circa 1930. He has been working in photography for 10 years, and the print and moving film for 8 years on projects for Nike, Reebok, Fidelity Investments, Mossy Oak, Subaru, Goodyear, and Volkswagon. He received a BFA with a concentration in photography from Salem State College, MA. He has also taken classes at Massachusetts College of Art, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Kozowyk has been surfing the New England waters, with surf travels to Costa Rica, California, and the Carolinas.
